Learn how to operate a motorcycle safely, with emphasis on the special skills and mental attitude necessary for dealing with traffic. This course includes both classroom learning and experience on the range. Classroom instruction will teach the different types of motorcycles, their controls, and how they operate to become a responsible rider. After a thorough review of the motorcycle controls, instruction will move to the outdoor riding range. Instructors will initiate training with straight-line riding, turning, shifting, and stopping. Instruction will gradually progress to cornering, swerving, and emergency braking.
Motorcycles and helmets are provided; students must ride the motorcycles provided by the college. Students must wear the following protective gear while riding during the course:
* Helmet
* Eye protection
* Full finger gloves
* Long durable pants that do not expose any skin (no baggies or flares, no leggings, yoga, stretch or running pants)
* Long sleeve shirt or jacket
* Sturdy boots or shoes that cover the ankle
NOTE: Safety is our primary concern; students will be dismissed from the course if they present a danger to their own safety or the safety of others during any exercise or evaluation in the course. RiderCoaches will require students to practice balance and coordination skills before returning to complete the course.
