ID : 17420
« back to classes page
This course examines the Underground Railroad in Quindaro, Kansas Territory as it evolved between 1856 and 1861 in what is now Wyandotte County, Kansas.  The contributions of Indian, African and Caucasion Americans are surveyed as we identify Underground Railroad station masters, conductors and the network of stations of which Quindaro was a part.  By studying a rare, pencil drawn map we can glimpse the depth of this network to freedom in Territorial Kansas.  Finally we ask the question:  Was the Quindaro Underground Railroad the first collaboration between red, white, and black Americans against slavery on the Territorial Kansas Frontier?
